Whitesnake .:. Is this Love
“Is This Love” is a song by the English hard rock band Whitesnake. The song is taken from their multi-platinum self-titled album, which released in 1987.
The song was written by vocalist David Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes during the albums early writing process (which took place in the south of France), but it was long rumored that the song had originally been written for pop artist Tina Turner. Even though the song was in the similar style as many power ballads of the ’80s, “Is This Love” became one of the most popular power ballads and one of the most popular Whitesnake-songs ever. The song reached #87 on VH1‘s “100 Greatest Love Songs”-list and #10 on their list of “Greatest Power Ballads”.
A music video was also made which received much airplay on MTV, largely thanks to featuring Coverdale’s then-girlfriend actress Tawny Kitaen. The music video depicts the band playing the song on a misty stage, inter-cut with scenes of Coverdale singing, Kitaen dancing and the two of them together. The music video greatly helped Whitesnake’s exposure in the US.
